Birds:Motuihe Island rings to sound of Bell-birds – Saddle-backs Kokako Kiwi – Oyster Catchers – fantail, most being rare NZ birds native and reintroductions on the island. Native forest restoration with intensive weed control program aims to recreate and restore the island to authentic former glory days before humans arrived. In 2011 additions, gallery shows images of the southern end of Motuihe Island being – Bald Knob – Pa Point – Eastern Bays – Snapper Bay – Southern End – Calypso Bay and Otamarau Bay – The South Ridge new native tree plantings.
Coastal erosion:Another study looks at storm damage of coastal erosion with old trees being claimed by winds.
Tracks:A network of themed tracks planted in grass, guilds visitors walks across the island to long white beaches at southern end.
History:Motuihe Island an area of 179 hectares situated in Waitemata Harbor 30 minutes by ferry from Auckland city NZ. Stunning beaches and sheltered bays mostly on the north end. History of maori settlement – European history dates back to 1800s includes farming quarantine site camp. Naval training base – war prison camp and recently conservation – managed along with formed Motuihe Trust to restore the island and identified significant historic sites.
